At first I gave Bentley a model letter (see below) to copy. His dissimilar reproductions made me realize that, while he could recognize all the letters of the alphabet since he was 2 years old, he was not able to form them independently yet. So I corrected my instruction and made for him lightly written letters to trace and provided only a minimal amount of "free writing space."
